Neptunbad occupies a former public bathhouse in Ehrenfeld, first opened in 1912 and transformed into a contemporary health and wellness destination. The historic bathing hall preserves dramatic tiles, columns and a high vaulted volume, while a separate Asian sauna landscape introduces wood, stone, water and garden views. Moving between the two areas is part of the experience.

Eight saunas, pools and onsen-style baths support a broad heat-and-cool circuit. Outside, a roughly 2,000-square-meter Zen garden provides fresh air and quiet between sessions. The entire wellness area is textile-free, including pools, which differs from Claudius Therme’s separated swimwear and sauna rules. Large towels are used for hygiene and coverage when resting.

The crowd is mixed, adult and accustomed to German sauna etiquette. Couples, solo guests and local regulars share the space without a specifically sexual atmosphere. Treatments, relaxation rooms and food can extend the visit, while an attached fitness component serves members and day guests under its own conditions. The historic hall can feel more social; the garden and Asian spaces encourage a quieter rhythm.

Ehrenfeld places Neptunbad away from the old-town sightseeing circuit but close to independent bars, restaurants and shops. The journey is worthwhile when architecture and sauna culture are both priorities. Give the venue at least half a day, accept full communal nudity as part of the format and resist scheduling a rushed dinner immediately after the final cycle. The building deserves as much attention as the facilities. Its distance encourages a deliberate arrival and makes the eventual return to ordinary streets feel especially sharp after several quiet hours.
